About YardageLab
YardageLab is a small, independent project: a handful of free calculators for people who quilt, sew, knit and crochet.
It started with a simple frustration. Most quilting math is easy, but doing it on a phone in a fabric shop, with fractions, is where mistakes creep in. The existing tools were either buried in long blog posts or hard to use on a small screen.
How the math is checked
Every calculator uses the standard formulas quilters and knitters already rely on: ⅞" for half-square triangles, 1.414 for on-point layouts, ¼" seam allowances, and so on. Each page shows its formula in a “How it works” section so you can check it yourself. The calculation code has automated tests, and results are checked against worked examples and published charts.
Where there is a judgment call, such as how much usable width to assume for 42" fabric, we say so on the page and let you change it.
What we don’t do
There are no accounts, no cookies and no tracking scripts. The calculations run in your browser and nothing you type into a calculator is sent anywhere. See the privacy page for details.
